Obtaining a Guam Divorce Decree

So, I was previously married while I was in the military. TL:DR was got married, moved to Japan. Got medically retired and eventually divorced.

I moved back to Ohio, while she stayed in Japan. We were married in Oklahoma, and divorced through Guam since no lawyer around me wanted to work with this weird arrangement.

Anyway, I need my divorce decree from Guam since that’s where the divorce was finalized. I called some Guam public records office and was given an email address to a guy named J Roberto that works in the Guam courts. Hopefully he responds and helps me with obtaining the decree.

I’ve been trying to get this thing for the last month and this is literally the furthest I’ve got. Due to my childish ex wife, I never actually received anything other than a facebook message saying it was finalized in early 2012. No paperwork other the papers I needed to sign and send back for the divorce to be official.

Whether the lawyer actually sent them and they were lost between Ohio and Guam, or the lawyer never sent them, or she never sent them.

The reason for needing this decree is to officially remove her from my medical benefits which she uses from time to time. The military won’t remove her without the decree, I’ve asked. Plus I’ve been paying 20 bucks a month since the divorce for her “survivor benefit plan”. Whatever that’s for. Which I’m out that money, I’m not worried about it.

Anyone got a hookup on someone who can get a Guam divorce decree? So I can officially remove her from my life before the military tries say she’s entitled to this or that and I’m screwed.

This is serious, not some kind of scam. I’m just trying to obtain a legal US document without actually being in Guam. Since it’s such a pain in the ass, it’s almost to the point where I’ve looked into a 1 day flight to Guam to go obtain this paper.

So she’s Japanese? If the marriage and the divorce were recognized and accepted in Japan, couldn’t you get official japanese divorce papers, translate them officially in English and get the whole thing officialy recognized on the US side of things?

Not sure how things work in the US, but in France, I basically had tolet them know I would get married in Japan, the wedding done in Japan, get everything translated into French, send everything to the french embassy, which then would notify the city I’m attached in France and I was officialy considered married in Japan and in France. Divorce would work the exact same way.

Run away and live in the middle of the bush living off the land. Surly the military taught you survival skills.

I prefer living in society. I’d need to at least charge my phone and provide internet for my computer. 2 things bush living off the land can’t give.

Plus it’s hard to talk a chick back to your place in the middle of the woods.

They might be annoyed, but I would reach out to the Embassy, and see if they can give you a phone number to the right office. Surely there’s more than 1 guy that can help. Worst case scenario they say they can’t help.

Nope, I was married in Oklahoma and stationed by the military in JApan. She chose to stay, I chose to leave.

This was my next solution. I’m hoping this roberto guy can help. Or at least reads his emails.

I know. I’m sorry. I wish I could help. Hopefully it gets resolved quickly.

A buddy of mine married a Filipino woman he met on a dating website. She continued to live in Australia after they got married and (shocker) they got divorced after he found out (shocker) she was cheating on him. I know that doesn’t help you at all.

I am a lawyer. This is so far out of my wheelhouse. You might need to get on a plane. Just got back from Japan myself, and I’d have stayed there. Tokyo is da bomb.

Damn... Then I’m afraid I have NOOOO idea what to tell you :)

Maybe get your ex-wife to really work with you a little on the situation, even if it means going back here to get her to sign papers...

Guam is a US territory, is there actually an embassy there? Some minor googling seems to indicate there is not one.

I just couldn’t get a lawyer in my area that was willing to work with me about this.

She’s american, I am too. Just got divorced through the mail, in a US territory I may end up visiting here soon if it comes down to it.

If I could remember the lawyers name I’d contact him. I googled divorce lawyers there and his name didn’t come up. I remember it being a weird first name and a regular last name.

If this guy I emailed doesn’t work out, it’s the embassy and if they can’t help, then it’s a flight there. Which looks to be 600 bucks and a 3 day mini vacation on a plane.

If you can’t get help through Guam you may be able to get a Divorce in the U.S. without her presence. Divorce in absentia is a PITA but sometimes it’s your only option.

Most chicks prefer a dude with at least an apt, car, big male member and a little money.

At least if pop culture leads us to believe anything.

At least my divorce was in Maryland, local and easy. I did, in fact, due to an old law, have to get a friend to testify that I hadn’t slept with my soon-t0-be ex-wife for a year. As if ....

Yea, I’d rather set my penis on fire than talk to her again. Since I’m a male, I kinda value my penis so no, I’m not ever talking to the woman that said “ I hope you die” ever again. That was the last thing she said to me as I left for the US.

To get divorced for me at least was, take all the stuff I paid for. Like the bed, couch, tv, misc furniture and that stuff. Leave her with what she came into the marriage with, which was the clothes on her back.

Send a money for half of the divorce, 900 bucks and sign a few papers.

I was military, she grew up military. She couldn’t ever understand why I needed to work at least 14-16 hours a day 5-6 days a week. She once tried to talk to my boss about it, he basically laughed.

It was fun while it lasted but I chose to come back home instead of trying to make it living in Japan, barely speaking the language. So i left, and told her I didn’t want to stay. When I got in a friends car to go to the airport and not come back, she yelled that as we drove away.

Yeah, I got away alot easier.

Now with me owning a business, a few cars and a house. It would really have to be the right chick. Although pre-nups could stop her from getting anything from that.

I’d give out her name but it kinda only points to her on facebook. It’s not like her last name is smith or anything. It’s the kinda last name you just look at on paper and go WTF?

Yea, its different with an older generation. Try wanting to work on things and fix them with someone who just wants to walk away.
I tried to fix my marriage, but it was stay in a country that I barely spoke the language or leave back to the safety of old friends and my family.

The one girl I’m dating now, I can’t complain. She’s a local news reporter for a tv station here in my town. She’s super professional at work, at home it’s like uhh, what happened to the news reporter girl that walked in the door. She looks at me and says “that bitch got off 20 minutes ago”

I started dating her before I knew she was a reporter. She works for one station, and I watched the other. I asked her one day, after we’d been dating for a few months what she did. She told me, and I thought she was kidding until she said watch me tonight at 530. So I did. There she was.
